Treatment with Anmniotic Membrane Graft

AmnioFix is a human amniotic membrane graft that provides 400,000 plus progenitor cells aimed at healing through regenerative pathways and not via scar formation which is the body’s normal healing mechanism. Today, amniotic tissue has thousands of uses and is the standard of care in opthamology, ENT, orthopedics and wound care.  AmnioFix is supplied in a lyophilized form so surgeons may deliver the benefits of the tissue through an injection.

Moore Foot and Ankle Specialists offers AmnioFix Sports Med technology, which is an all-natural injection therapy designed for an array of injuries in the foot and ankle. AmnioFix is an alternative for patients who are not interested in surgery or steroid injections, and have not found relief through other conservative options like physical therapy, anti-inflammatory medication, and bracing.

How it Works

Soft tissue injuries are often caused by either a trauma or overuse of the affected area. Micro-tears in the tissue form, become inflamed and scar tissue may form and impede a full recovery. AmnioFix contains naturally occurring growth factors that reduce inflammation, scar tissue formation, and enhance healing of micro-tears via regenerative pathways. The AmnioFix injection is performed in the office as an outpatient procedure. This procedure is minimally invasive, has no down time with only a few restrictions and can be conveniently scheduled to meet the demands of even the busiest schedules.

The Use of Amniotic Tissue

Amniotic tissue has been used to treat injuries since the early 1900's and is safe and FDA approved. Amniotic membrane has been the subject of many scientific publications evaluating its use in reducing inflammation, reducing scar tissue formation and, enhancing healing of micro-tears in soft tissue. All of the amniotic membrane tissue for AmnioFix is donated by healthy consenting mothers undergoing scheduled Caesarean section. Amniotic membrane is a sac surrounding the baby and is typically discarded after the baby is born. The recovery of the membrane does not affect the baby or the delivery process and therefore the donation process does not share the ethical concerns associated with embryonic tissue. All tissue donors are tested for infectious diseases, similar to the testing done for blood donation. The amniotic membrane then undergoes a validated patented process to thoroughly clean and preserve the tissue, called the PURION Process

Treatment Process

The treatment process will vary depending on the ailment you are currently suffering from. For example, an AmnioFix Injection can be used to treat plantar fasciitis and may take 1-2 injections before resolution. A major joint ailment may take 2-3 injections but will vary based on several factors to be discussed by the physician.  The only side effect of the injections is possible redness and tenderness around the injection site, which can be minimized using ice and elevation. This discomfort typically lasts for only 2 to 3 days.
